Leaving Jeffery City was a blessing, like I said previously it was a horrible place to have to stay! Eating breakfast and getting moving could not happen fast enough. As we set out the mossies were thick, I mean chasing me down in clouds of hundreds thick. There was no relief from these guys, they were everywhere. I sped on to Sweetwater Station, a very nice rest stop area, so far Wyoming has hands down the nicest rest stops. Dismounting to change to go into the facilities I was mauled by even more mossies than before! I couldn't get the bug spray on fast enough, they would bite through multiple layers of clothing and bug spray was a joke.
From Sweetwater Station I was on the last 40 miles to Lander, the ending place for the day. I took off down the road leaving most of the group (the ACA and Stuart caught up with me as I was getting ready to leave) and the mossies behind. The day was warm but not too hot and the wind was quite for Wyoming standards. Cruising the 40 miles was fairly fast, it was over all a great riding day. Getting into Lander I waited at the camp area where the ACA group was staying for the night to wait for Stuart. When he showed we headed in to town to get some food and then hunt out some camping. After eating we headed to the city park and ran into Keith, the guy we had been riding with through Kansas and some of Colorado. Keith was unfortunately dropping out of the tour, he was tired and not have a good time anymore, both excellent reasons to drop out. This tour is about fun and enjoyment, if it isn't working than its not worth doing.
We shook hands and parted way with Keith and headed to the park where we met Nick, Robin, Zack and several other cyclists. Seeing that the park was really full with cyclists Stuart and I opted to camp at the motel up the street for $8. Where we met two other cyclists, Gary and Kelly. Setting up camp Stuart and I headed off to McDonald's for our "last supper", since we were after 2 months of traveling together finally splitting up.
In the evening there was a large firework display in town and then it was off to bed so that I could get an early start in the morning.
