Missoula --> Lochsa Lodge, Id (7/16/10)

We started the morning out with a great breakfast cooked up by Robin (scrambled eggs and cheese).  Then we headed out, a little lighter than when I rolled in (about 7 pounds of gear got sent home).  Getting back down to Lolo was not too bad, the route takes you 13 miles out to Missoula just to visit the ACA headquarters.  Stopping at a fuel station for some drinks we headed back out.  I was starting to feel sluggish, which I think was from the rest day.

With the sluggishness I told the other guys to ride on because I would not be able to keep pace with them anyways.  As I plodded along I came to the small "resort town" of Lolo Springs, where I met up with Dennis and Zack.  We ate some fruit and power bars and had some cold drinks, which was a nice break from the warm water in my bottles.  Heading on we started the big climb for the day, Lolo Pass.  The pass was pretty tough, a slow and steady plod the whole way.  Getting to the summit (also the boarder between Montana and Idaho, and the start of Pacific Time) we stopped and took photos, then headed to the visitors center for some free coffee and wifi.

After a nice break at the center we headed on down the other side to Lochsa Lodge where several other cyclists were going to be staying.  The downhill was awesome, except for the wind, damn you wind you have been a menace the whole trip!  After peddling down the hill we came into Lochsa Lodge camping area, where unfortunately all the lodges were full, so it was camping instead of luxury.

After getting our $8 camping site we set up camp, cooked some dinner and then went to bed.  Wanting to get an early start in the morning to beat the wind, and enjoy the all downhill ride again.
